Caught My Eye - volume 1

"I don't look at trends" Robert states, "but purchase what I discover and love."

Welcome to our first edition of  Caught My Eye. . . .

APPRECIATION ARCHIVE

This month we have launched our very first quarterly vintage edit. I travel a lot as a designer and constantly seem to have one eye out for something that brings delight. When I'm working with clients on interior design consultancy it can often start with their favourite object or painting being catalyst that sparks the design into fruition. These are the things that make a home personal to you, bring personality and character to your space.
After a lifetime happily spent trawling markets and vintage haunts I thought it was time I shared a few of these finds with you. This new category Appreciation Archive is to celebrate the craftsmanship and stories that accompany beautiful vintage homewares. Unique finds that you can breathe a second life into. Making your home that little bit more special.

CREATE A UNIQUE HOME

My interior design philosophy is to dress your home much like you would dress yourself; in layers. Mix high end to low end, small businesses, craftsman and vintage finds. Create layers of playful colours, mix textiles, print and pattern, don't follow trends just go with what you love.
To take your space up a notch, think about each individual zone within a room. Take an armchair and add a vintage throw over the back that you can also snuggle up with whilst you save on the heating bill. Then add your favourite cushion, perhaps its matchy matchy, perhaps its a colourful clash. Next up you're going to need a side table with a vintage lamp and shade that can again make a seamless statement within your now cosy nook. Next, add an inspiring book for when you are in need of an escape from the news, and perhaps a calming scented candle to set the scene. Feel free to add jazz and a perfect vintage cut crystal coupe glass of something fizzy. A final touch has to be a vase with colourful dried flowers (of course, I know). Absolute bliss achieved.

SUSTAINABLE SHOPPING THIS CHRISTMAS

I'm a strong believer in women supporting women and holding each other tight. Therefore it felt important to me to highlight a few of fellow female-led small business owners. Enjoy!

KS Creative Pottery - full of the most perfect stripe plates, firmly at the top of my Christmas wishlist.
Minnie Mae - the wonderfully whimsical hand made ceramics, the toadstools are my firm favourite that happily adorn my mantle piece all year round.
Arbala - for stripe heavenly lampshades that should come with a disclaimer of addiction alert.
Village London - I secretly peruse these delicious combinations of colour, texture and pattern for every part of my house they could possibly fit. Total perfection from a woman who's home is 99% cushion.
Albie & Pearl - the to go to for dreamy table top treats that will make your tablescape the talk of the festive season.
Vyrao - luxurious scented candles that will send you into a blissful coma of peace. For those of us working mum's that rarely get this, when we get the chance it needs to be totally indulgent.

Enjoy.
